A balança comercial do agronegócio brasileiro de 1989 a 2005 AgEcon
Barros, Geraldo Sant'Ana de Camargo; Silva, Simone Fioritti.
This study aims to analyze the agribusiness contribution to Brazil’s trade balance. A new classification of the agribusiness trade balance was proposed and used to analyze the aspects of the exported products –agricultural products, products of animal origin, industrialized foods and imported inputs – represented by fertilizers. Imports and exports vector autoregression models were used to explain the behavior of these variables. An increase of 1% in the attractiveness – product of the exchange rate by the international prices – boosts immediately the exports of non processed agricultural products by 1.71%, stabilizing at 2% after some trimesters. The attractiveness explains 60 to 74% of the forecast error variances of these exportats. It is noted that an...

A CARGA TRIBUTÁRIA SOBRE OS INSUMOS AGRÍCOLAS UTILIZADOS NA CULTURA DA UVA NO VALE DO SÃO FRANCISCO. AgEcon
Souza, Ana Mary De; Moura, Antonio Fernandes C. De; Britto, Waldenir Sidney Fagundes.

A review on applications of greenhouse drying and its performance CIGR Journal
Sahdev, Ravinder Kumar; Kumar, Mahesh; Dhingra, Ashwani Kumar.
Limited sources and rising cost of fossil fuels has instigated researchers to look towards renewable energy resources.  Among renewable energy resources, solar energy is required to become indispensable in the future, as it is inexpensive, abundant, inexhaustible, environmental friendly and non-pollutant.  Most of the people living in developing countries are dependent on agriculture.  Agricultural products are dried to increase the storage life, minimize the packaging requirement and reduce the transportation weight.  Solar drying for drying agricultural products is being practiced since long back throughout the world.  Because of its drawbacks, advance technique, i.e. greenhouse drying, is being adopted for drying crops to reduce the drying time and...

Actor-led Change for Efficient Agrifood Systems; Handbook of the Participatory Actor-based CADIAC Approach AgEcon
Bourgeois, Robin; Herrera, Danilo.
This is a practical handbook for scientists, analysts, and students working on the definition and implementation of policy changes that contribute to real economic and social agriculture-based development, with a special focus on commodity systems. The objective is to promote efficient and sustainable agrifood systems that broadly benefit society. The method presented here relies on the participation of actors in directing the evolution of agrifood systems, including both identifying problems as well as elaborating policies and implementing decisions through concrete actions. There are two linked components: consensus-building between actors to define actions and to implement changes, and participative research based on commodity-chain analysis methods....

Reflection of the rise f agro-food production costs is analyzed based on the introduction of the quality safety situation of agricultural products in China . Firstly, rise of production cost caused by the demarcation of prohibited areas; secondly, rise of production cost caused by using environment-friendly agricultural inputs; thirdly, rise of production cost caused by quality control; rise of production cost caused by product certification. The ecological compensation mechanism which is beneficial to agro-food quality safety is set up according to the principle “the one who is benefited compensates”. Análise da volatilidade de preços de produtos agropecuários no Brasil AgEcon
Campos, Kilmer Coelho.
The instability of the producers and investors income coming from price fluctuation is a problem whose characteristics and causes should be thoroughly investigated given the importance of the commodity in the national agribusiness and their losses in terms of profitability, jobs and exchange value to Brazil. Given that, it is used the class of autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity models (ARCH and GARCH) to characterize and analyze the volatility of the time series of monthly returns of soy, coffee, corn and fat ox. This analysis shows that these products are marked by having high price fluctuations, in which positive or negative shocks generate impacts in the long run. The sum of the volatility reaction and persistence coefficients showed values...

Collective Marketing Arrangements for Geographically Differentiated Agricultural Products: Welfare Impacts and Policy Implications AgEcon
Lence, Sergio H.; Marette, Stephan; Hayes, Dermot J.; Foster, William E..
This paper examines the incentive of atomistic agricultural producers within a specific geographical region to differentiate and collectively market products. We develop a model that allows us to analyze the market and welfare effects of the main types of real-world producer organizations, using it to derive economic insights regarding the circumstances under which these organizations will evolve, and describing implications of the results obtained in the context of an ongoing debate between the European Union and United States. As the anticipated fixed costs of development and marketing increase and the anticipated size of the market falls, it becomes essential to increase the ability of the producer organization to control supply in order to ensure the...

Dynamic Relationship between Agricultural Trade and FDI in China AgEcon
Fei, Ping; Xu, Liqing.
On the basis of time series data from 1984 to 2006, co-integration analysis and VAR model are used to carry out empirical analysis on the dynamic relationship between the foreign direct investment in agriculture and the variable volume of international trade of agricultural products. Result shows that there is long-term co-integration relationship between the two. But it is probable that foreign direct investment (FDI) has substituted for improving in the short term and shows deviation from the long-run equilibrium relationship. Therefore, we put forward two policy proposals which are improving market system and strengthening the import management of foreign-funded enterprises.
